Mamata Banerjee urges the people of Bengal to support the decision of the Modi government after Bangladeshi PM Sheikh Hasina stepped down.
Amid the ongoing unrest and change of leadership in Bangladesh, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee appealed to the people of the state to maintain peace. She assured that the West Bengal government will support the decision of the Narendra Modi government at the Centre regarding this matter.
"I appeal to the people of Bengal to maintain peace. Do not pay attention to any rumors. This is a matter between two countries, and we will support whatever decision the central government takes," Banerjee expressed, as quoted by the news agency ANI.
These statements come as reports suggest that Sheikh Hasina, who resigned as the Bangladeshi Prime Minister on Monday, arrived in Agartala in Tripura following massive protests in her country.
India shares a 4,096.7 km-long border with Bangladesh, representing the longest border India shares with any neighboring country.
Bangladesh has been experiencing a month-long protest, which escalated into violence last month. According to news agency AFP, at least 300 people have died in the anti-government protests so far.
