In today's age of widespread air travel, airports have expanded to accommodate the growing number of passengers. Among these airports, Saudi Arabia’s King Fahd International Airport stands out as the largest. Covering an impressive 780 square kilometers (roughly 300 square miles), the airport is deemed a city in its own right.

The Guinness Book of World Records recognizes King Fahd International Airport as the largest of its kind. To put its size into perspective, it surpasses the entire area of Bahrain, a neighboring country with three airports, and it's eight times larger than Paris, a renowned city.

This airport's scale becomes even more apparent when considering its capacity to accommodate several small Indian cities, each typically around 121 square kilometers in area. Its sheer size also exceeds other major airports like Denver International Airport and Dallas Fort Worth International Airport by a significant margin.

The Saudi government is already planning for the airport's future, with intentions to construct a new six-runway airport on the King Fahd International site by 2030.

Named in honor of King Fahd ibn Abdulaziz, who ruled Saudi Arabia for 23 years until his death in 2005, the airport near Dammam has become a crucial hub for air travel in the region.

With 37 airlines serving 43 destinations, King Fahd International Airport (DMM) offers extensive connectivity across the Middle East and the Indian Subcontinent. Additionally, the airport provides international connections with a few widebody flights to Europe, operated by carriers like Lufthansa and KLM, linking passengers to their respective hubs in Frankfurt (FRA) and Amsterdam (AMS).

King Fahd International Airport operates one of the world's shortest commercial flights, covering a distance of just 47 miles (76 kilometers) to Bahrain International Airport (BAH). This route is serviced by Flynas and Gulf Air, with up to 28 weekly flights. The average block time for this flight is only 45 minutes from gate to gate.
