Mamata Banerjee has failed to handle the situation and should resign, said Nirbhaya's mother regarding the Kolkata rape-murder case.

Amid protests against the alleged rape and murder of a trainee doctor in West Bengal, the mother of Nirbhaya, the victim of the 2012 Delhi gang rape case, demanded the resignation of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday, stating that she had "failed" to handle the situation.

Asha Devi, the mother of Nirbhaya, told PTI that instead of using her power to act against the culprits, the chief minister is trying to divert people’s attention by holding protests. The 31-year-old postgraduate trainee doctor was allegedly raped and murdered while on duty at R G Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata on August 9. Students of her college and doctors in different parts of the country have been holding protests to seek justice for the victim.
