Train Tragedy Averted: Sabarmati Express Derails Near Kanpur Due to Intentional Obstruction
A passenger train, the Sabarmati Express, derailed near Kanpur's Govindpuri station early Saturday morning after its engine hit an object placed on the track. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries have been reported.
The incident occurred around 2:35 am between Kanpur and Bhimsen railway stations, affecting 20 coaches of the Varanasi-Ahmedabad bound train. Rescue and relief operations are currently underway.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the engine's cattle guard was damaged after hitting a foreign object, possibly a boulder, which led to the derailment. Railway officials are exploring the possibility of involvement by miscreants or anti-social elements, as the object appears to have been intentionally placed on the track.
An official stated, "We found a foreign material near the 16th coach, and the extent of damage to the engine's cattle guard suggests that it hit this object, causing the derailment."
The investigation is ongoing to determine the exact cause of the incident
