"Let her earn": A judge in Karnataka commented on a woman who was seeking ₹6 lakh in monthly maintenance from her ex-husband.
In a recent court proceeding at the Karnataka High Court, a woman's request for ₹6 lakh per month as alimony from her ex-husband was denied by a judge. The judge stated that the woman could start earning if she wished to spend such a significant amount.
A video from the court proceedings has been widely circulated online. It shows the woman's advocate attempting to secure a monthly maintenance amount of ₹6,16,300 from her ex-husband. However, the judge dismissed these arguments, deeming the requested amount unreasonable.
During the hearing, the woman's lawyer stated that she required ₹4 to 5 lakh per month for knee pain treatment, physiotherapy, medicines, and related expenses. Additionally, the lawyer requested ₹50,000 per month for the woman's "basic needs" such as bangles, sandals, slippers, watches, and an additional ₹60,000 for food.
The lawyer also pointed out the discrepancy in lifestyle between the woman and her ex-husband, highlighting that the ex-husband wears expensive branded clothes, such as Calvin Klein t-shirts costing ₹10,000 each, while the woman makes do with old dresses.
