A wolf responsible for the deaths of at least eight people, including seven children and a woman, in Bahraich district in Uttar Pradesh, has been captured by forest department officials. The wolf was part of a pack of six and was caught after officials used firecrackers to guide it and then tranquilized it. The captured wolf has been taken to a zoo. Four wolves have been captured so far, and officials believe that two are still at large.
The Uttar Pradesh government has initiated 'Operation Bhediya' to capture the remaining wolves in Mehsi tehsil in Bahraich. The operation is being closely monitored by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Sixteen teams have been deployed to capture the wolves, and the Forest Department is using drone cameras and thermal drone mapping techniques to aid in the capture. Additionally, officials are using elephant dung and urine to deter the wolves from inhabited areas and have set up traps with bait in remote areas.
In response to the attacks, measures such as installing doors in houses that lack them and conducting night patrolling in all villages are being implemented. ASHA workers have been tasked with raising awareness among the public about safety measures.
