A 14-year-old boy from Chembrassery near Pandikkad in Malappuram district passed away due to a Nipah virus infection at the Government Medical College Hospital in Kozhikode on the morning of July 21.
Health Minister Veena George informed the media in Malappuram that the boy suffered a massive cardiac arrest around 11 a.m. Despite the doctors' efforts to revive him, he was pronounced dead around 11:30 a.m.
Ms. George also stated that three of the boy's close relatives are currently under surveillance at the Government Medical College Hospital in Kozhikode, and four other acquaintances are being monitored at the Government Medical College Hospital in Manjeri, Malappuram. One individual is receiving intensive care unit support. She reassured the public that none of those in the high-risk contact category have shown symptoms of Nipah, and there is no need for panic.
The district administration is set to discuss the final rites with the boy's parents, adhering to the Nipah protocol.
