Nepal plane crash live updates: A Saurya Airlines aircraft carrying 19 people crashes during takeoff, with 18 feared dead.

A domestic plane with 19 people on board skidded off the runway and crashed on Wednesday while attempting to take off from the airport serving Nepal's capital. It is unclear how it skidded or the status of the people on board. The Saurya Airlines plane was en route from Kathmandu to the resort town of Pokhara.

Local media images depicted smoke rising and plane wreckage scattered in a ditch. The fire has been brought under control. Tribhuvan International Airport, the main airport in Nepal for international and domestic flights, has been closed as emergency crews worked. While it was not raining at the time of the crash, low visibility was reported across the capital due to monsoon rainy season. Saurya Airlines operates the Bombardier CRJ 200 on domestic routes.
