IND vs SL 2024: Full schedule, squads

Two more days and new India head coach Gautam Gambhir will have the taste of his first match in the new position. India won the T20 World Cup last month but the weight of the expectations has not lessened and Gambhir will be expected to win another world title. He, however, begins his tenure with a three-match T20 series against Sri Lanka which starts on 27 July.

Gambhir has already left his mark on the squad by picking Suryakumar Yadav as the captain for the T20 side instead of Hardik Pandya who is part of the squad. In the ODIs, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been included despite reports that they were set for an extended break.

Apart from three T20Is, India will also be playing three ODIs in Sri Lanka which will give Gambhir a good idea of how things stand in the white-ball cricket for Team India. The 2025 Champions Trophy is fast approaching and will be held in February-March 2025.

Jasprit Bumrah, however, has been rested for throughout the series.

Sri Lanka have also made multiple changes coming into the series. Charith Asalanka has been named captain of T20s, replacing Wanindu Hasaranga, while Sanath Jayasuriya is the interim head coach.
