India got their first medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics when shooter Manu Bhaker won the bronze in the women’s 10m air pistol event. She rebounded from her disappointment at Tokyo 2020 and became the first Indian woman to win a shooting medal at the Summer Games.
Additionally, shooters Ramita Jindal and Arjun Babuta made it to their respective finals, while badminton players PV Sindhu and H.S. Prannoy won their opening singles matches. Boxer Nikhat Zareen also won her debut fight and advanced to the round of 16, where she will face the reigning world champion.
In table tennis, Sreeja Akula and Manika Batra advanced to the women’s singles round of 32, while Sharath Kamal and Harmeet Desai were eliminated in the men’s singles. Rower Balraj Panwar made it to the quarter-finals of the men’s single sculls event.
However, India's tennis and swimming campaigns came to an end as both the men's doubles team of Rohan Bopanna-N Sriram Balaji and men's singles player Sumit Nagal were knocked out in their first round matches. Swimmers Srihari Nataraj and Dhinidhi Desinghu also failed to advance in their respective heats.
