A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.0 struck off the coast of Peru at 12:36 am local time, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS). The quake's epicenter was located 8.8 kilometers (5.5 miles) from the Atiquipa district, prompting a tsunami warning for potential waves along nearby coastlines. The seismic event was strongly felt in Ayacucho, Ica, and the capital, Lima. Local media reported significant impacts, including rock slides in the Ayacucho region that disrupted transportation and isolated several communities. Eder Allca, the mayor of Sancos in Ayacucho, confirmed the rock slides had cut off several localities.
Simultaneously, another earthquake with a magnitude of 4.5 was reported in Bishnupur, Manipur, at 7:09 pm local time on June 26. The National Centre for Seismology (NCS) pinpointed the epicenter at Latitude 24.49 N and Longitude 98.81 E, at a depth of 25 kilometers. The NCS announced the event on the microblogging platform X (formerly known as Twitter), detailing the specifics of the earthquake.
