The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a severe weather warning as Cyclone Remar is set to hit West Bengal today. The cyclone, intensifying in the northwest and northeast of the Bay of Bengal, is expected to bring heavy rains and gusty winds to coastal areas of Bangladesh and West Bengal, as well as parts of Tripura and the northeast. With wind speeds reaching up to 135 km/h, the storm poses significant risks to the region.
Flight operations have been suspended in anticipation of the cyclone, with Kolkata Airport Authority announcing a 21-hour suspension from 12:00 IST on May 26 to 09:00 IST on May 27. A meeting held with stakeholders in West Bengal, including Kolkata, resulted in the decision to postpone operations due to the expected adverse weather conditions.
