The Kansai International Airport (KIX) in Japan has achieved a remarkable feat by not losing a single piece of luggage in its 30 years of operation. The airport was honored with the Skytrax award for World's Best Airport for Baggage Delivery in 2024.
In a press release, the airport expressed that the continuous effort and meticulous work of everyone involved, including airlines and handling companies, has contributed to this exceptional record.
Located in Osaka, the Kansai Airport has been serving an annual passenger volume of 20 to 30 million since its opening in 1994. The airport has received the prestigious award eight times, as reported by the New York Post. The evaluation for the award is based on factors such as wait time before baggage pickup, efficiency of baggage delivery, and response to lost luggage.
The airport's success can be attributed to its multilayered checking work. It has appointed two or three staff members to assess the types and quantity of bags for each flight, along with the transit information of its passengers.
