Remarkable performance by Indian athletes won 29 medal in Paralympic.
The Paris 2024 Paralympics have witnessed a record-breaking performance from India, with 84 para athletes representing the nation across 12 disciplines. This marks an increase from the nine disciplines India participated in at Tokyo 2020, with para cycling, para rowing, and blind judo making their debut.
India's medal tally has been impressive, with Avani Lekhara and Mona Agarwal securing the country's first medals. Lekhara became the first Indian woman to win two gold medals at the Paralympics, defending her title in the women's 10m air rifle standing SH1 shooting event with a world record score. This achievement was complemented by India's first-ever double podium finish in a single event, with Agarwal winning bronze.
The Indian team has achieved numerous milestones, including a one-two finish in athletics, with Dharambir and Parnav Soorma clinching gold and silver in the men's club throw F51 event. Praveen Kumar also set an Asian record to win the high jump T64 title, securing India's sixth gold medal.
Other notable achievements include armless archer Sheetal Devi's world record score in the compound mixed team qualification event, alongside Rakesh Kumar. At 17 years old, Devi became India's youngest Paralympic medallist, securing bronze in the mixed team event. Harvinder Singh won India's first-ever Paralympic gold in archery, while Sumit Antil made history by defending his title in the men's javelin throw F64.
India's medal count has reached 29, comprising seven golds, nine silvers, and 13 bronze medals. This surpasses the country's previous best haul of 19 medals at Tokyo 2020, making Paris 2024 India's most successful Paralympics in history.
