Balaji Wafers is the second-largest chips seller in India after Lay's, with a revenue of 5,000 crore in 2023.
"Balaji Wafers: Tastiest in all conditions."
The brand was founded in 1992 by three Virani brothers: Bhikhubhai, Chandubhai, and Kanubhai. Forced into entrepreneurship at a young age when their father sold their family's ancestral land due to drought, the brothers received Rs. 20,000 to start a business.
After a failed venture in fertilizers, they noticed the popularity of the wafers served at a boarding mess in Rajkot. This led Chandubhai to start making his own wafers in a shed at home with a small amount of capital, eventually teaching his brothers how to cook them. The wafers were well-received and in high demand, leading to the expansion of their business.
The company offers a range of 65+ products and 150+ SKUs, with four factories across two states in India - Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh. They produce 100 quintals of potato wafers daily.
