Launching of Bhartiya Antariksh Hackathon-2024

India has achieved the safe & precise soft landing of the “Vikram” Lander near the southern polar region of the moon and the successful deployment of Pragyaan Rover on the surface of the moon on August 23, 2023. To commemorate the feat, the Hon’ble Prime Minister has announced “National Space Day” to be celebrated on 23rd August every year. Several Pan-India outreach activities and public engagements are being planned as part of the maiden National Space Day celebration.

The Bhartiya Antriksh Hackathon being organized as part of National Space Day-2024 Celebrations was launched by the Secretary, DOS/ Chairman, ISRO. Dr. S Somanath on July 4, 2024. Twelve problem statements in the areas of Geospatial Domain, Space Science, Image Processing, and AI/ML areas are identified for the hackathon and declared open for undergraduate/ postgraduate/PhD students across the country. A team of 3 to 4 students can participate and address the challenges with innovative solutions. Initially, 100 teams will be selected based on their ideation and approach to problem-solving and later 30 teams will be shortlisted by an expert committee for 30 hours Grand Finale at NRSC, Hyderabad during August 13-14, 2024.

Chairman, ISRO emphasized that a hackathon programme is being organized to create more and more application-driven ecosystems and bring in innovation in space-based applications which will benefit both society and the nation. Chairman, ISRO mentioned that the innovative ideas generated from this hackathon could evolve into successful business models.

Chairman, ISRO, Scientific Secretary, ISRO & Directors of the various ISRO Centres encouraged all the students to utilize this excellent opportunity to participate in the hackathon and gain valuable experience in developing geospatial applications using available satellite data.
