Gujarat government passed a bill to abolish superstitious black magic practices and provides for up to 7 years in jail.
The Gujarat government unanimously passed the "Prevention and Abolition of Human Sacrifice and Other Inhuman, Evil and Cruel Practices, Black Magic Bill, 2024" in the state assembly on Wednesday.
This decision follows a response sought by the Gujarat High Court from the government regarding a PIL seeking legislation to put an end to black magic and other superstitious rituals such as human sacrifice.
The new law includes provisions for imprisonment ranging from six months to seven years and a fine of Rs 5,000 to Rs 50,000. The law also states that aiding and abetting the commission of an offense or attempting to commit such an offense would be considered as committing an offense and would be punished accordingly.
