Tail Strick happened during takeoff in Indigo airlines.
On September 9, 2024, IndiGo Flight 6E 6054 experienced a significant tailstrike during takeoff from Delhi airport, en route to Bengaluru. The incident resulted in substantial damage to the aircraft's tail section, with images revealing multiple white dents on the blue exterior, indicative of a severe tailstrike . A tailstrike occurs when the rear part of an aircraft contacts the runway during takeoff or landing, potentially causing structural harm, particularly to the rear pressure bulkhead, a critical area responsible for maintaining cabin pressurization .
Upon realizing the issue, the pilot promptly notified the air traffic controller (ATC), who granted permission for the aircraft to return to the airport. Fortunately, the plane landed safely, with no injuries reported among the passengers or crew . The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and Delhi airport authorities have initiated an investigation into the incident, with the DGCA temporarily removing the flight crew from duty to determine the cause of the tailstrike .
In response to the incident, IndiGo has grounded the affected aircraft, an Airbus A321neo, and is conducting necessary repairs . The airline has also issued a statement, apologizing for the inconvenience caused and assuring that the aircraft will return to operation only after completing necessary repairs . This incident marks the latest in a series of tailstrike incidents involving IndiGo, with the DGCA previously fining the airline Rs 30 lakh for four similar incidents in 2023 .
